20010-FR-108 - CONCORDIA Auvergne
Ecological tasks and social inclusion on workcamps
Concordia is a French national non-governmental and non-profit making organization, founded in 1950 by English, German and French youngsters. Their aim was to enhance the values of tolerance and peace after the 2nd world war by organizing international workcamps of young volunteers.

The main objectives of Concordia are the following:
Education in helping young people to grow up by acquisition of collective life.
Culture in favoring the youth exchanges on an international level, always emphasizing the values of peace, friendship and mutual respect.
Social in taking part in concrete actions of solidarity, as well as supporting a civic attitude.
Social economy in contributing to realization of local development, in favor of the environment, patrimony, tourism and socio-educational animation.

The Paris head office supports the eight regional offices activities in the Alps, Auvergne, Aquitaine, Bretagne, Normandy, Picardy, South-Southwest and Ile-de-France.
Concordia has the approval of the French Ministry of Youth and Sport and the Ministry of the Environment.

Project environment
The EVS project takes place in the region of Auvergne, center of France, in the main city which is called Clermont-Ferrand (140 000 inhabitants). Clermont Ferrand has acquired a lot of recent cultural and sportive infrastructures, the mediaeval town centre presents many historical heritage sites such as mediaveal houses, roman churches,  gothic cathedral, museums… The position of Clermont Ferrand in the centre of France facilitates the access to the mediterranean coast in the South, the atlantic ocean in the West,  the alps in the east and Paris in the North. Auvergne is a region of low mountain range with many natural areas.
Tasks and activities
The aim of this project is to promote the idea of environmental respect on work camps organized by the delegation, and particulary on a work camp organized with the natural regional park of “Volcans d’Auvergne”, on a nature reserve “le Rocher de la Jaquette”. In this context, tools have been developed by the association to help work camps leaders to develop actions to promote sustainable development (animations, sorting waste, responsible consumption ...). Volunteers will support this effort by educating leaders and by proposing original actions to implement on work camps.
The second aim of this project is to involve the volunteer on inclusion dimension of the work camps :

Effectively the Concordia team monitors every year young people with fewer opportunities, before, during and after the work camps (15 to 20 young people per season). But there is a real interest to include an EVS volunteer on the preparation of young people for their future voluntary project, in accordance with the EVS volunteer wishes.
In particular the activities deal with:
Promoting existing tools and develop new tools (new actions, animations ...) on environment and sustainable development issues before the work camps.
Preparing an ecological workcamp (design and installation of the camp, working with local partners).
Co-animating an ecological international workcamp with another leader (for that purpose we offer a workcamp leader training in June).
Working about the inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities on international workcamps.
Participating to volunteering promoting events.
The detailed activities will be proposed by the volunteer according to his/her skills and interests and with the support of the team.
Requirements
Adaptation, to be communicative and easy to approach to the different audience, and young people with difficulties
Speak good English and/or French or to be motivated to learn French
Motivation for the theme of the sustainable development, and to work on a project of animation.
Availability to start in May 2012
Practical conditions
Working Hours : The volunteer will work approx. 35 hours per week
Working and living conditions: Accommodation and food will be provided. The volunteer will be accommodated in the flat of Concordia’s regional office which is located the centre of Clermont-Ferrand. Project Description:
Since 2005 our association has taken part in EVS. Until now we have hosted 29 volunteers from different countries.
Our main aim to host volunteer is to give them the possibility to learn more about Polish culture, customs etc, as well as to give them a chance to try work in our institutions. For our association EVS is a great adventure too.
Thanks to volunteers we have also a chance to meet different cultures and sometimes to get in with new, fresh ideas in terms of our work and tasks. We are very flexible and open for volunteers’ ideas on the activities.
Moreover volunteers will have possibility to choose one kind of activity or more.
We are looking for 2 or 3 volunteers. Volunteers' activity will be concentrated around three basic areas:

Area One:
Development of the skills:
Main goal of the volunteers is going to be a work in Young Creators’ Club – with youth from local schools, in Occupational Therapy Workshops and Therapeutic day-room as well.
Those are places, where volunteers will have an opportunity to develop their skills and to obtain new experiences.
Young Creators’ Club for youth from local schools: - prepare and lead classes for young people (art, music, sport, theatre, cooking, photography, journalism etc.). We are very flexible and open for volunteers’ ideas.
They can organize own classes for youth according to their needs, skills or hobbies; - organizing and taking part in various social and art events such as exhibitions, happenings, expositions, shows, etc.; especially about European Awareness, EU, EVS, Youth In Action Programme;

    * help in creating a web blog about activities in Young Creators’ Club and about volunteers’ activity as well/create web blog or web page about Europe;
    * create a newspaper/film/brochure (with young people from the Club) about - for instance - people’s life in EU or other topic according to volunteers’ ideas;
    * attend in organized trips (bike trips, camps etc.);

Occupational Therapy Workshops for disabled people:

    * help instructors with preparation and leading engagements in particular workshops (art, sartorial, exploration of life, housekeeping, D.I.Y., office and computers;
    * prepare and lead engagements for their wards (volunteers will never be left alone with wards - it will always be with an attendance of the instructor); - assistance to wards in day-to-day activities (e.g. cleaning after their classes, help with accompanying wards to the bus stop, etc.);
    * help people on a wheelchairs;
    * attend in a keep fit and rehabilitations;
    * attend in organized trips (day excursions and several day trips);

Therapeutic day-room for children and teenagers from difficult backgrounds:

    * help instructors with preparation and leading engagements for kids and youth (art, sports, outdoors games and plays, etc.);
    * help with doing a homework; - prepare and lead engagements for wards (individual and in groups);
    * help with day-to-day activities (e.g. cleaning after their classes);
    * attend in organized trips.

Area Two:
European Citizenship:
Activity of the volunteers is first and foremost working in above establishments, but not only that. Another important element of their activity is commitment to the actions, whom main target is to deepen a sense of European citizenship as well as promotion of activities related to EVS and 'Youth In Action' program. We are planning to conduct meetings with a youth from local schools. Those meetings will be a good occasion to exchange experiences, to promote EVS and 'Youth In Action' Programme and to present volunteers’ culture in local community.

Area Three:
Polish Culture:
Volunteers are going to be involved in activities, which allow them to learn about polish tradition, morals and culture:

    * participation in lessons of polish language;
    * organizing 'polish evenings', as well as volunteers national evenings';
    * participation in sight-seeing tours (within their work);
    * participation in cultural events etc.

Workin Hours:
As it was mentioned above we are very flexible in terms of volunteers’ work. We are open for volunteer’s suggestions.
They can choose in which establishment they want to work more and in which less.
The volunteers together with the coordinator will agree about the working hours and a weekly schedule.
The amount of work should not exceed 35 hours per week.

Holidays:
The volunteers work 5 days a week (Monday to Friday).
For every month of work each of them can get two extra days free.
They can cumulate the days and take longer holidays. Nevertheless, they have to obtain the agreement regarding the dates from the Host Organization.

Accomodation:

Volunteers are going to be ensured with separate flat in a block of flats, however it can be necessary to share the room with other person as there are 2 bedrooms in the flat (it’s up to the number of volunteers in the project).
Volunteers will be provided with a standard equipment and essential household goods.

Food:
They are going to receive money for food. It will be their decision, whether they would like to prepare their meals by their own in the flat, or to buy them in a local school canteen.
Depending on their decision, we will help them to organize it.

Local Transport:
If it comes to local transport, there is no problem in our town. Sępólno Krajeńskie is a small town (11 000 inhabitants), then there is no need for it.

Polish Language Classes:
Lessons of polish language will be leaded by a professionally active teacher, who worked with us in the past, during previous visits of volunteers.
Lessons are going to have individual character.
